This light and crunchy stovetop popcorn is a healthy homemade snack that's quick to make and endlessly customizable—perfect for family movie night or midday munching.
Ingredients
1/4 cup Popcorn Kernels
1 Tablespoon Oil (neutral, like coconut or avocado)
1/2 tsp Salt
1 Tablespoon Nutritional Yeast (optional)
1/4 tsp Garlic Powder (optional)
Pinch of Paprika or Chili Powder (optional)
Popcorn has always been one of my favorite go-to snacks, especially when I want something fast, crunchy, and satisfying without loading up on sugar or oil. This stovetop method brings back memories of old-school movie nights, and it's so simple you'll never go back to the bagged kind.
I love that I can control the oil, salt, and toppings—whether it’s nutritional yeast for that cheesy vibe or a sprinkle of cinnamon and coconut sugar when I want something sweet. Jimmy and I have even made themed popcorn nights with flavor combos from around the world!
Instructions
In a large pot with a lid, heat the oil over medium heat.
Add popcorn kernels and cover. Shake the pot gently to coat kernels.
Once popping starts, reduce heat slightly and continue shaking occasionally.
When popping slows to 1–2 seconds between pops, remove from heat.
Immediately sprinkle with salt, nutritional yeast, and seasonings. Toss and serve.
Serves: 2 Cost per serving: ~$0.20
