Easy Homemade Taco Seasoning Recipe (Better Than Store-Bought)

Small bowl of homemade taco seasoning made with chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and pantry spices

This easy homemade taco seasoning is smoky, savory, and packed with flavor without all the extra fillers often found in packaged mixes. It’s perfect for taco pasta, tacos, soups, skillets, beans, and more.

Ingredients

2 Tablespoon Chili Powder

2 tsp Smoked Paprika

2 tsp Cumin

2 tsp Garlic Powder

2 tsp Onion Powder

1 tsp Oregano

1 tsp Salt

1/2 tsp Black Pepper

1/2 tsp Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (optional)

Once you start making your own taco seasoning at home, it’s honestly hard to go back to the packaged versions. Not only does this blend taste fresher and more flavorful, but you can also control the salt level and skip a lot of the unnecessary additives and fillers often found in store-bought packets. I love keeping a jar of this in my pantry because it instantly adds bold flavor to tacos, soups, pasta skillets, beans, roasted vegetables, and quick weeknight dinners.

Instructions

Add everything to a small bowl or jar and mix well. Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

Notes

Use about 1 tablespoon taco seasoning per pound of protein, beans, or skillet mixture.
