How to make delicious easy Vegan Hot Dogs

Ingredients

4 large (peeled, trimmed to the length of a roll)

4 Hot Dog Rolls

Topping Ideas: Onions, Tomatoes, Condiments

For the Marinade:

1/4 cup Soy Sauce or Tamari

1/4 cup Water

2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar

2 Tablespoons Maple Syrup

1 tsp each Garlic and Onion Powder

1 tsp Liquid Smoke

1/2 tsp Paprika

1/2 tsp Black Pepper

1 Tablespoon Oil

These carrot dogs are one of my favorite vegan BBQ hacks—they look, feel, and taste like hot dogs, but they’re bright, crunchy, and surprisingly meaty. The secret is marinating the carrots overnight in a smoky, savory mix, then searing them until they’re blistered and caramelized.

All you need is a bun, your favorite toppings, and you’re set for summer fun. They’re whimsical, nostalgic, and totally plant-based—what’s not to love?

Instructions

Prepare your carrots by peeling and shape the ends round. Place the carrots in a zip lock bag or container with a lid.

In a bowl mix all the marinade ingredients together then pour it into the container with the carrots and close. Allow the carrots to marinade over night for best flavor or at least 4 hours.

After the carrots have marinaded place them into a medium pot along with the marinade liquid and add an additional 1-1/2 cups of water to the pot. Place pot on stovetop and cook carrots on medium heat until they are tender but still firm.

Remove carrots from pot and seer in a frying pan with oil until they are blistered and have char marks on them like a traditional hot dog. This will give the carrot dog lots of flavor.

Serve in a bun with your favorite condiments.

Note: you can marinade the carrots for up to 3 days before using. This will give the carrots maximum flavor!
