Create The Jar

In a bowl mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

In the jar first layer the flour mixture and tap the jar to pack it into the jar. Then top with the brown sugar evenly pressing it on top of the flour mixture. Lastly top with the granulate sugar.

Tighten the lid onto the jar and decorate with ribbons, bows, or any Christmas items you'd like.

Baking Instructions

In a bowl, cream together the jar ingredients with these wet ingredients: 1/2 cup of softened vegan butter, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/4 cup applesauce and any other specific ingredients from the chosen add-in. Select one of the add-ins from the printable sheet (ex. for the Oatmeal Cookies add 1 cup rolled oats and 1/2 cup raisins).

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop cookie dough mounds onto the prepared baking sheet about 1 inch apart.

For softer cookies bake for about 8-10 minutes and for firmer cookies bake 10-12 minutes or until light golden brown.

Add In Options:

Chocolate Chip Cookies: Add 1 cup vegan chocolate chips.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies: Add 1 cup rolled oats and 1/2 cup raisins.

Peanut Butter Cookies: Add 1/2 cup peanut butter and 1/2 cup divided for topping the cookie chopped peanuts.

Cranberry Almond Cookies: Add 1/2 cup dried cranberries and 1/2 cup sliced almonds.

Peppermint Double Chocolate Cookies: Add 1/2 cup cocoa powder and 1 cup vegan chocolate chips, 1/2 tsp Peppermint Extract, for this one you add 1/2 cup of Applesauce instead of the 1/4 cup like the rest of the cookies. Crushed peppermint candy to top each cookie.

Coconut Macaroons: Add 1 cup shredded coconut.

Maple Pecan Cookies: Add 1/2 cup chopped pecans and 1/4 cup maple syrup.

Ginger Molasses Cookies: Add 1 tablespoon ground ginger and 1/4 cup molasses.

Lemon Poppy Seed Cookies: Add the zest of 1 lemon and 2 tablespoons poppy seeds.

Pumpkin Spice Cookies: Add 1/2 cup pumpkin puree and 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice.

S'mores Cookies: Add 1/2 cup mini vegan marshmallows and 1/2 cup crushed graham crackers.

Chai Spiced Cookies: Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon cardamom, and 1/4 teaspoon cloves. You may need to add a bit more applesauce to get to a stiff cookie dough consistency.

Note: Feel free to give the recipient any of the add-in ingredients separately so they can make the cookies without having to purchase additional ingredients.

Tip: If the dough is too dry you can add 1 Tablespoon at a time to get a dough like consistency that you desire.

Tip: For best results use a high quality vegan butter that you have baked with before.
